After the Mat’s jaunt,we brought you the both Razer Sphex and Kabuto to the testbed,as we had mentioned this month is full of ’snakes’,that is indeed true. Both Sphex and Kabuto are Razer’s latest offering for the mid range gaming crowd, while compared to CM Storm’s offerings they were comparatively small and thinner.Like what we said previously, gaming surfaces are highly dependable on the individual itself,so we let you guys to judge them by any mean.

Being sized at 280mm x 195mm x 1.2mm(Width x height x thickness),Kabuto is made with a layer of 100% natural rubber at the very bottom, thus providing decent grip for user. The specialized surface of Kabuto is specially built for precision tracking and grip for gamers, with its microfiber fabric,it also serves as a multipurpose wiping cloth. The fabric can be used to wipe off the dust on LCD panels as well as serving as an LCD protector between the keyboard and the LCD when the lid is turned down.

Control Accuracy 9/10
Tracking/CPI 9/10
Laser Performance 8/10
Speed/Glide 7/10
Durability 9/10
Optical Performance 8/10

As usual,we have made a table to pontificate the surface’s performance and apparently Kabuto has a less grip because of its microfiber surface, thereby gamers whom in fond of hard-coated surface will have took time to orientate on the Kabuto. On the contrary, gamers whom like precision grip are welcomed with the less slide surface.Basically,Kabuto is a tiny and premium surface by Razer. In regards of the appearance,we have little comments here, they could choose to make the Kabuto logo into a much luminous color like what Sphex does, this would literally make the overall appearance to improve.

When Hard-coated surfaced striped thin and affordable!

First glimpse 320mm by 230mm !!! (Width x height x N/A),they were being too shy to mention thickness),the Sphex inherited the highlights from most hard-coated surface,in the meantime Sphex has a surprisingly less thickness with pleasing slide performance. As we said,Sphex has the traits of a hard-coated surface, thereby Laser mice would literally work perfectly in this surface.Eliminating the thickness of the surface, the bottom of Sphex is adhesive thus providing grips for the user.Once it got peeled off,it”ll literally sticks on the desk very well, even exaggerating gesture would hardly moves the surface,on the other hand user may experience some sticking case when peeling off the surface from desk. The dusts would deposit on the surface, user might want to clean the surface after an occasion period.

This where you are peeling the surface, avoid from using others side as it would damages the rather thin Sphex,as you know it’s REALLY thin.

Dont be freaked out after the removal, just use some wet cloth to wipe them off.

Control Accuracy 8/10
Tracking/CPI 8/10
Laser Performance 9/10
Speed/Glide 10/10
Durability 6/10
Optical Performance 8/10

Despite the Sphex has the main traits of a hard-coated surface,it however less performed opposed to pure hard-coated surfaces. These would due to the absent of alloy coating and the thickness we seek for, nevertheless Sphex did a great job in competing in its class.Sphex gives a great value to the less affordable, but in the meantime maintaining the quality of a hard coated surface ought to provides.

Further, the built of Sphex is slightly fragile, the durability of Sphex is below average as it’s a tinted film-like.For users whom frequent peels off the surface, the Sphex might really discourage you from doing this.Else are really impressive like what we are expecting,Sphex works superbly with our king-Mamba.

Conclusion

The last and not least,we had finally get to an end for this post, the latest offerings of Razer are most aimed to the budget crowd,as we actualised from the present of the stripped down strategy from the highend pads like Destructor,Megasomas. These could be great strategy to the consumers as we know not everyone is willing to pay for RM80 above to get a disputed ‘performance’ pad, isn’t that?In the upcoming posts we are looking forward to review the Megasoma, thereby readers are urged to stay tuned for our articles.

Off topic,we are keenly experiencing the improvement of traffics towards our site, here we are very pleased with with the support of the readers. We will improve for the better,C&C are welcomed. Thanks for the support!
